During the engraving process, a laser removes the top layer of leather, and the underlying layers form the base for the engraving colour. The lettering then takes on the same colour as the natural underlying leather.
On black leather wallets, the engraving is roughly beige or brown; on other wallets, such as carbon, it is dark grey/anthracite.
However, with a natural product such as genuine leather, every engraving is always unique and will always look slightly different in terms of colour.
